Natural jewel Altenbachklamm

The term "natural jewel" stands for a landscape that has developed its own character, even its own soul, untouched by human influences. The variety of mineral and plant peculiarities, created and promoted on the days of the nocturnal run of the Altenbach, underline this award.

The entry of our natural jewel is located at the tavern Stelzl vlg. Old Bacher. The gorge extends for about 2.3 km to the exit at the panoramic Tertinek vlg. Mukonig and overcomes it almost 400 meters.

Nature at the center

Many special features accompany the visitor on his way. Harmoniously, all buildings fit into nature and allow the guest not only to walk through, but to experience the gorge with all its treasures. Impressive is the suspension bridge, the in

Softly she whispers to herself, sometimes fast and then slowly, the voice of the gorge - the Altenbach. Every now and then he sings a duet with the wind, and depending on the time of the year and the day, the breaking sunrays dance with the drops of water, and the butterflies with the flowers dance to the sound of nature. The trees stand trellis and the forest dwellers are the audience. No wonder that the white woman has her home here, but a miracle for anyone who is allowed to experience this natural spectacle. And so, a walk through the gorge ends for every person where everything originally started, with a story to tell.

The white woman

A long time ago a halterbub lived at the court Altenbacher in Altenbach. His job over the year was to take care of the grazing cattle, so it could not possibly get to the neighbor's property.

One evening all the cattle came back from the pasture to the yard without the lad. Despite several searches for him, he finally remained three nights and three days untraceable.

It was believed that the boy, who was already a nerd, had left to find happiness elsewhere. At the supper, where all the housemaids sat together daily in the parlor, the halberd was always included in the evening prayer.

But suddenly, on the third day at about midnight, violent knocking on the window shook the farmers from their sleep. When the Altenbacherbauer opened the front door, the missing boy stood in front of him, bathed in sweat, his body wet with dirty, dirty clothes full of thorns and shrubs. Thank God, so he was alive!

After the boy had strengthened himself by eating and drinking, he told excited about the meeting with the white woman in the Altenbach Klamm. She had held him for three days and taught him to work.

Since this incident, the boy changed and visibly developed the former always launched to pranks Spitzbub to a diligent responsible adult and family man.

And as long as he lived, he told again and again about this impressive encounter with the white woman.
